«I have taken this product, when it became available, for years. I had started with Fiorinal 111 for Migraines 37 years ago, it's my understanding the Ascomp w/codeine is a generic form of the Fiorinal 111. I can not live without this product as I have from 4 - 15 or more Migraines a month. Since I have started taking them daily the Migraines have been reduced to 5-6 a month and not as sever as they were previously. I just do not understand how the price has escalated so much just in the past 8 - 10 yrs. I used to pay $7.00 for 100 capsules and now since I am taking 2 a day a 3 mo. supply (180) capsules are $277.00 and my part D (medicare) will pay nothing toward the cost.»

«My quality of life went from zero to 100 when I started on this med 20 years ago for migraine prevention! I am allergic to all Maxalt-type meds due to heart side effects! I am prescribed 4 capsules daily for migraine prevention and without them, I go straight into migraine symptoms and have to stay in bed for 3-4 days until the migraine and headache symptoms have disappeared! My new coverage is now Medicare RX! And they refuse to cover it! HELP»

«I have had migraines for 25 years and find Fiorinal with codeine the only thing that takes care of the pain and allows me to function. I also take Phenergan if I don't get on top of the pain fast enough to ease the vomiting associated with the pain. Like the previous post, my migraines wake me up in the middle of the night. «Suffered from migraines for 14 years trying dozens of over the counter and scripts. I ended up in the er because I had a migraine for a month straight day and night. I was told that day I have a tumor in my brain. I had to see a neurologist for my tumor and he prescribed them to me. It is a wonder pill for me. It has been 4 years now I only get a migraine once in a while. I gave me my life back. I am a mother of 3 and recommend it to every single person I meet that suffers from migraines. So that they can have their lives back as well.»

«My headaches have been a true mix of both tension/migraine. I cannot tolerate triptans, due to heart and blood pressure issues. I could not function without this medicine, when I have a bad headache, that can keep me in bed for days. One warning, as I've been on and off these for 20 plus years - and you will be up a tolerance, and risk of rebounds - so take early when you feel one coming on, so as not to need more during the day.»

I don't have many side effects except constipation.»

«When you're out of options when it comes to severe migraines, Fioricet is a life saver. Even after trying Tylenol, Motrin, Excedrin, Imitrex, etc. to no avail, my mother was prescribed Fioricet for her headaches. I took two and after maybe 15 minutes, my crippling migraine was gone! And when I say crippling, I mean it. I can't open my eyes without vomiting, severe pain across my forehead, light and sound sensitivity... Fioricet, even WITHOUT codeine, is a God sent. I would recommend anyone with severe headaches to ask their doctor about it.»

«This medication is wonderful for patients who cannot tolerate triptans. I had a terrible cardiac reaction to Relpax years ago and spent a night in the hospital being monitored. I am a healthy, young woman so this experience was horrifying and I was very afraid that I would never find relief for my migraines. My neurologist prescribed this medication along with starting Botox treatments. She was right on the money with this treatment plan! My headaches have become less frequent and far less severe and with the addition of Fioricet with codeine, I can easily treat my migraines with minimum intrusion into my busy life.»

«I suffered chronic migraines from allergies to environmental factors for which nobody seemed to want to give me anything. OTC drugs were useless. Imitrex was a life-saver. I was the first one in line when the shot to the leg was invented, but it seemed a little radical for the everyday 8-10s. Then one doctor gave me Fioricet with codeine. It worked. AT last a drug that worked. When I returned for more he told me I couldn't have it because it worked too well. Is this not a stupid society. Fifteen years of pain and suffering through work and kids' events and when I find something that works I am told I can't have it because it works.»

«I am surprised that a pain management specialist would give this drug as a first choice. The entire Triptan line starting with the first drug exclusively for migraine headaches, Imitrex, is available for migraine headaches. Any Triptan that is administered and results are felt within 15-20 minutes, also prove that the headache is a migraine. Headache epidemiology is quite complex and the migraine may be masking a tension headache or vice versa. Fioricet with codeine has a place in tension headaches, but not really in most true migraines. I take this drug, or another like it, after I take Maxalt (one of the triptan drugs), if there is still pain left after the Maxalt has relieved the migraine aspect of the headache. In that case it is a 10.»

«This drug is amazing! Within minutes my migraine went down and it took the pressure off my eyes! I'm so amazed by this! I have also arthritis and it also helped me take some pressure off my back. Its a blue and yellow capsule. It has 30mg of codeine in it I believe. I was dying all day literally with this migraine. I couldn't move or it was worse. I went to my pain management doctor for a refill on another medicine and I told him about this migraine and he did a great job of taking good care of me! Thank you.»

«It really helped me out. I used to be on the regular Fioricet and then my migraines got worse and the dr changed me to the Fioricet with codiene. I like this one much better, however it gives me a strange feeling after about 30 min. It's not a bad feeling but its waaawaaa is the best decription. It helps control my migraines though. I don't have many side effects except constipation.»

Migraine No More!

I hope this isn't TMI but I was feeling quite sick as "cold" was sitting on my chest and had a lot of mucus that wasn't coming up, took this medicine and it really does help produce a more productive cough and less frequent, which meant I could clear my throat of mucus & wasn't coughing quite as much. «I would have gave this medicine a 10 if it wasn't for the dull headache (may not have been due to the drug I was battling a sinus infection anyway) after I took this medicine. Cough was gone within an hour. Make sure you drink a lot of water. Maybe that's why I got the headache too. Also, I noticed that I was very sensitive after taking this drug. I actually cried a little bit because of the sinus pressure. When usually I just suck it up with pain and never cry. Stopped wheezing. Make sure to take a warm shower too after taking this drug it will also help clear the mucus.»

I am taking all sorts of over the counter pills, gels, capsules, hot water, cold water mixes with multiple active ingredients and Cheratussin AC syrup gave me better relief than anything else. «I had a cold and bad cough for two weeks before I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with bronchitis. This has been amazing! «Taking the liquid form Cherritussin helped my cough very much. It was a great sleep aid when sick, but should not be over used. Also I would add DO NOT TAKE THIS AND THEN DRINK COFFEE! I didn't realize that the stimulant of caffeine mixed with it would bother me. Also check to see if pseudoephedrine is mixed in any way with your codeine as this is also a stimulant and worsens the situation.»

Then I got a cold and my cough and phlegm got much worse. My family insisted I see a doctor. The doctor prescribed this, what a relief it has been. Getting much phelgm out and cough is almost gone after 4 days on the syrup! Has been an answer to prayer so far! I had been battling this cough for a year and it took so much out of me. Amazing to have it helped so much!»

Waited for dose to wear off then went back to Tylenol for a good night sleep.»

«Had a cough for close to a year. I thought it was from congestive heart failure. Had been using Mucenix DM for the thick phlegm. It helped some but not enough.

«I took this medicine for coughing at night and had a very negative reaction to it. I seemed to have all of the classic signs of a heart attack - pain in the chest and back - it felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. Heart rate went down very low and blood pressure was low and then high.»

«Very effective. I have osteoarthritis and can be pain free with Codeine. It is more effective with Ibuprofen. ALSO profoundly lifts depression due to chronic pain and makes such a better life day to day. Space doses well apart to avoid tolerance. I use only in the morning with very good effect. Using whole daily dose in the morning may get you through the day without a need for a second dose. I would leave at least 6 hours between doses to assure full effect. Don't suffer needlessly. Good luck and hope this helps.»

«I am an early 60's male with chronic neck pain as result of too many skiing accidents over many years. Normal pain killers like Aspirin or Naprosan wouldn't even touch the pain however l found Paracetamol / Codeine 500mg / 30mg worked wonders. I take 1 tablet at first and if pain too intense increase to 2 tablets. Because of stomach upsets and slight dizziness l limit myself to 4 tablets daily. Talking to my GP about situation and the fact that l did not want to stay long-term on the Paracetamol / Codeine and he suggested acupuncture which l started to have 2 times a week (10 very sharp but small needles) over a period of 6 weeks and, as result l have only had 1 of my tablets for the last fortnight which is a wonderful turn-around for me.»

«lI was lucky to have had a Dr that did research with codeine for Narcolepsy. Codeine has a paradoxil effect in Narcoleptics. It works better than any stimulants to not only be able to stay awake but aware without the awful side effects of a stimulant such as jitteriness. I Am able to read, do paper work, budget money, drive things that require concentration that are otherwise extremely difficult and hard to do and get right. At first, the Codeine wasn't enough, but when I got a script for Promethazine on top of the Codeine, it worked WONDERS. Killed all the pain. I was real happy because I didn't need a dose raise from the Narcotic. Codeine is an excellent pain medication for moderate pain.»

«Fantastic would be suffering with out! I take co-codamol 30/500 for tooth ache that I'm getting work on and having to wait a while for referral to go through. But this really does make the pain vanish in about 10 minutes! Only down side is it can make you feel very drowsy and very slight stomach ache but I take to help me sleep as that's when the pain is at it's worst and it does help you sleep. Also causes constipation and the pain free moments only last a few hours.»

Taken prescribed pure Codeine 30mgs Naproxen 250mgs 4 hourly with milk breaking the tablets into 4 pieces.. Easier for the the gut to break down .. Works well!»

«I had 3 of my 4 wisdom teeth taken out this past August. My dentist prescribed me codeine and ibuprofen. Whenever I took the codeine, my pain level was very low, so I'd say it worked pretty well! The only reason I didn't give a ten, is because it did make me extremely nauseous at one point.»

Codeine has allowed me to be able to do things I wouldn't be able to do anymore on just stimulants. Gives me some life back. Having Narcolepsy is like having to watch life go by in a dream, it steels your ability to participate in life. Slowly built a tolerance otherwise no problems at all.»

«Had 4 wisdom teeth taken out this morning at 8:30am. My dentist prescribed some codeine for the pain. Having never taken codeine before, and the label reading take 1 or 2 pills for pain, I decided to take 2 around 12:30pm. WOW, these things take all of the pain away alright, however, for about 1 - 2 hours they made me very drowsy, out of it and I couldn't look at anything with a screen without it being blurry or me feeling dizzy. I was literally glued to my seat. Thought I was going to throw up at one point too. Should probably only be used for chronic, unbearable pain - otherwise it is not worth the side effects. Still feeling a little woozy now at 10:00pm. Will stick to the softer stuff because it seems like I am really sensitive to it.»

«Short lived but effective painkiller. I tend to get more dizzy and lightheaded from it than hydrocodone but the painkilling effects are similar. I rarely took the recommended dose on the bottle because it affected me so much. 1/2 a pill seemed sufficient. Takes only about 30 minutes to start taking effect.»

After taking for several days as prescribed coming off of it has made me quite dizzy and generally not feeling great, might be a part of the controlled element of it. «I had upper respiratory infection along with a runny nose and a throat infection. This medicine does its miracles. For 2 nights I wasn't able to sleep and I tried over the counter meds however nothing made it better. After I saw my doctor he prescribed me this syrup along with amoxicilin and wow I must say I slept amazingly great and woke up feeling much better. I only took the syrup at night since its not recommended to drive or to use at work. I don't abuse of it, I only took 1 tsp at night with some Sprite for 3 days and my cough got better day by day. This medicine will put you to sleep and it will stop the urge of coughing. Only use at home before bed.»

«Have had a cold for a little over a week now. Yes, I had it during Christmas, and I'll still have it for New Year's Eve. For 3 or 4 nights in a row, I couldn't sleep, due to a tickling in my throat when I would lie down at night. I would cough violently, attempting to stop the tickle. I was so exhausted by the time I went to the doctor for help. I'd tried everything over-the-counter with dextromethorphan HBr (Mucinex Fast-MAX) and pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) but nothing was touching it. Thanks to one tiny teaspoon of this prescription elixir, I've just enjoyed 10 hours of solid (uninterrupted) sleep! Hallelujah! I didn't wake up even once to cough! I'm so glad there's still something out there that works!»

My body became tolerant to that combination, I talked to my doctor and he suggested Soma compound. It's been like night and day. I don't think chemically it's as strong as the Percocet/Valium combination, but the Soma was just what I needed. I didn't have any (that I can think of) side-effects from taking it. It was not nearly as addicting as Percocet and I'm able to always keep them on me for backup now and never feel the need to use for the heck of it. For me, there was no high associated with the soma. «Removed tonsil was very painful. By chance I found that Tylenol 3 and aspirin combined to remove ALL pain. I take aspirin regularly but it wears off in about 4 hrs. So my first T-3 acted in conjunction with the aspirin, then wore off. So I took another T-3 and nothing happened. I realized I needed another aspirin. I took another adult aspirin - the fire went away. Then I called my Dr. He said "We know that but we don't rec it because aspirin causes some to bleed. You've been taking it a long time and you don't bleed." Tylenol 3 will also stop a severe cough, where nothing else works, e.g., from bronchiectatsis.»

The penicillin takes a few days to kick in and ibuprofen does absolutely nothing. I called the doc back and they prescribed Tylenol #3. At first I was excited to relieve my pain, but after about 2 hours into my medication I still felt no relief. «Had a secondary molar extracted and was prescribed Tylenol 3 for pain. It has not alleviated the pain at all. I have a fairly reasonable pain threshold (had major abdominal surgery 1 year ago and didn't require this much pain management). Revisited the dentist today for pain (concern with possible infection or dry socket). All is healing well so I don't understand why the entire side of my face hurts. Don't recommend T3 for dental pain management. It's making me drowsy but that's it. I've had to take 1 every 4 hours and last dose I doubled up and took 2. Still didn't help. I don't think it's made any difference at all :(»

«I was prescribed this medication after returning to work 3 weeks after a moderate ankle sprain. I am alternating 800 mg of Motrin and 1000 mg of Tylenol every 6 hours around the clock, so basically I am taking something every 3 hours and icing/elevating my ankle when pain meds are due. It has been 2 months since my injury and am still in severe pain, I have had to modify my work schedule and I basically sit around doing as little as possible to rest. I am on my feet at work for 12 hours at a time, in a walking boot, which is also causing me lower back and hip pain. After I come home for work, I take 2 Tylenol #3 and it does nothing. I do not take pain medicine often, but this is providing 0 pain relief and makes me very nauseated.»

«I am currently taking this medication for moderate pain reduction. I hurt my wrist by falling on concrete stairs. It does reduce the pain and works very well. The only downside is stomach upset, nausea, and extreme sleepiness. I do not have any kind of narcotic tolerance. This medicine is for minor to moderate relief of pain, and should be used as such. This medicine in my book scores a 8 out of 10 points for managing moderate pain. Highly recommend.»

«I was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage last week, but I had no external symptoms. I waited a week and still no bleeding. So my ob/gyn prescribed for me misoprostol (Cytotec) which induces contractions and therefore bleeding etc. I was given Tylenol 3 to take to reduce the pain. I had excruciating pain from the contractions to the point that sometimes I could hardly move or talk. I took 400 Advil (Iboprufen) and felt a little better. I know the Tylenol 3 had no effect on me because it didn't even make me sleepy, not even a bit. n.b. I don't drink, don't smoke, don't use drugs and therefore I don't believe I have tolerance to any narcotics. Regular Tylenol never works for my kind of pains anyway.»

I continued taking ibuprofen despite the fact my dentist prrscribed the t3s until today when the ibuprofen wouldn't even touch the pain.

«I need to get a wisdom tooth removed and have been taking up to 3200 mg of ibuprofen daily for a month and a half. I explained to my dentist my concerns about taking so much ibuprofen so he prescribed me tylenol 3. I've never taken any sort of high end pain killers so I don't have any tolerance. I continued taking ibuprofen despite the fact my dentist prrscribed the t3s until today when the ibuprofen wouldn't even touch the pain. It kicked in pretty quickly but all it did was erased the pain for twenty minutes and made me feel high which I hated. Had to pop another ibuprofen once the pain instantly came back. Thought it would work better then this.»

«It does take the edge off the pain. Taken every 6 hours, the effects weaken and pain returns after 6-5 hours. Side effects can be dizziness so do not operate a vehicle, etc. another side effect can be constipation if taken for more than several days. An OTC stool softener is recommended by my doctor.»

I'd describe its effect as "doesn't really lower the pain level, but makes you not care that you're in pain". «My wisdom tooth got infected(pericoronitis) and the left side of my face is currently throbbing. I was prescribed penicillin along with ibuprofen 600mg. The penicillin takes a few days to kick in and ibuprofen does absolutely nothing. I called the doc back and they prescribed Tylenol #3. At first I was excited to relieve my pain, but after about 2 hours into my medication I still felt no relief. Well, it's been over a week and I tried to work my physical labor job...PAIN!! This med hasn't helped me much except for sleep. However, I did wake up at times in pain. «I have used this medication for some time now and found that it is the best migrane medication on the market. Usually I have spots in my eyes, so I know that if I don't take something right away that it won't be long before excruciating pain sets in. However, this medication works even after the pain sets in, if you aren't able to take something right away. It usually only takes one pill to get rid of the migrane. Before this I uses to take between 4 to 6 midrin to relieve a bad migrane.»

«My daughter suffers from severe allergies with a persistent cough. We have tried so many different medications from OTC to prescription. This actually lets her rest and quietens her cough completely. Very effective. I only use it if all else fails due to the narcotic in the medication.»
